Oh 2010, Why were you so eventful?

In 2010, Americans saw a year like no other. As people tuned into the news, internet or any other source they were witnessing some of history’s most entertaining and scandalous events. I have compiled a small list of some of 2010’s top events.

1. Trapped Chilean Miners Found Alive: After a mine collapsed on August 5th 2010, 33 Chilean miners had been trapped more than 2,000 feet underground.  After being underground for 69 days, all 33 miners had been pulled out alive naming this “one of the most amazing stories of survival ever documented”.

2. 230,000 Killed in Devastating Haiti Earthquake: On Jan. 12, 2010 an earthquake hit Haiti killing over 230,000 people and costing millions and millions of residents to loose their homes in the country’s capital city of Port-au-Prince. The USGS called it one of the worst earthquakes Haiti had experienced since the 1700s.

3. Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Repeal Passes Senate: Senate votes 65-31 to stop a 17 year-old policy banning gays and lesbians to serve openly of their sexuality in the military.

4. WikiLeaks Exposes War Secrets: In 2010, Wikileaks released thousands of private documents related to the United States wars in Afghanistan and Iraq recorded throughout the past couple of years.

5. Prince William Proposes to Kate Middleton: After years of waiting, the world was shocked as Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton in late of 2010 with Princess Diana’s ring.

  1. I think this is very interesting information. It also shows just how much the internet and social media outlets have transformed and evolved the way individuals receive news!
